"The 40-Year-Old Intern" or "I Heart Domino!"

So, here it is, the Charity Folks auction I mentioned in a previous post, the auction I just couldn't pass up:

Can you believe it????  Two weeks working in the Style Department at Domino Magazine!  How cool is this?  I'm so excited I am having a hard time writing about it!  And it is happening very, very soon!

I'm going to go ahead and ask everyone to please forgive me for my excessive use of exclamation points in this post as I know I am about to overuse them.

More details:

I saw this auction on the Charity Folks website back in June.  Charity Folks is one of those sites I visit on occasion to see what amazing experiences/travel/memorabilia they have up for auction.  I have never bid on anything before but when this auction caught my eye it almost took my breath away.  You can't see it on the image above, but the fine print said there was a minimum age of 16 to participate.  I immediately wrote in and asked if there was a maximum age and was happy to hear back that the internship was open to all!

As a lover of magazines (Domino being my FAVORITE), I can't wait to get an inside look at how an issue comes together!  This is absolutely a dream come true!  I get excited just seeing the magazine in my mailbox each month so you can imagine how excited I am about this!  I realize that as an intern I might be tucked away in a closet somewhere making copies, then fetching lunch orders, but I'm more than happy to do it!  I can make copies with the best of them and I have WAY too much waitressing experience, so if that is what is consists of, I'm the right one for the job!  So far I know nothing about what I'll be doing... I've only been told to show up at the Conde Nast building at said date and time and have security call Dara!  Yes, Dara (pictured below) of the awesome "Ask Dara" column!!!

I don't really know what to expect, but most of all I think the trip and the experience will provide the kind of inspiration that will last a lifetime!  I'm also really excited about getting to be a part of a photo shoot!  I wonder if we'll be shooting the interior of a fabulous celebrity or designer's home or if we'll be shooting fabulous coffee tables.  Oh, who cares??  Either way, it will be thrilling!  And it will be a change from what I do here every day.  Not that I don't LOVE what I do and feel extremely grateful to get to do it... I have the best job in the world and I wouldn't trade it for anything!  But it will be fun to report to a job in Times Square for two weeks!  And that is so far out of my comfort zone that I think it will be really good for me!  I look forward to the sites and sounds of New York.  I always come home full of energy and bursting with new art ideas.  I'm sure this time my brain will be on overload!

So, any thoughts on the internship?  Any advice?  Any clothing advice?  I'm used to getting up and walking ten steps to my studio, often in what I slept in the night before, but I don't think that is going to work in this situation.  Also, any restaurants or shops I must visit?  I'm not sure how much time I'll have for exploring...  With my days being spent at Domino, most of my nights will be spent on my design work, but I certainly want to take in as much of the city as possible.  My husband (then-boyfriend) and I took two trips to New York in 2005 to set up at Surtex and the Licensing Show and we had the most amazing time, but we haven't been back since.  So I welcome all suggestions for the trip and the internship!!

And of course, I plan to blog about every detail!  You guys are surely getting tired of all the flower pictures by now!
